Bank Holiday Bonanza!

Wow!

What a glorious weekend of Burnham Week sailing in some pretty lively conditions only to finish with simply the most glorious day on Monday when BOC  hosted the annual 'Quay Day' attracting what seems to be thousands of visitors into the town.

The Wetworks 707 crewed by a bunch of very able young guys did themselves very proud (considering they have not sailed one of these boats for many years) coming second on day one and two, in a fleet of seven, and after having led the whole fleet on day three for most of the day they slipped out of contention in zero air to come fifth.

The river was awash with boats - yachts, dinghies, motor boats, gigs, kayaks and several paddle boards. Over the weekend we received so much interest particularly in the SUP area and are happy to have supplied quite a few that were taken directly out onto the water - marvellous.

The JOBE boards looked and performed brilliantly on the water and our resident expert and demo/trainer chap (Nobby) was really busy showing off his skills and giving help to many on the water.

We had moved the store down to ground level, outside, which worked really well allowing so many to see what we provide -  and as a bonus we truly enjoyed the day with so many old and new friends.

A superb and very special weekend had by all - it is still sunny and the water is still very calm - come and see us soon and let's get you out on the water!

Summer SUP'ing

I know, I know, what summer? Look - you've got to grab it when you can and I am certain that it will turn out to be one of those late summers that runs out into October  - glorious!

This image is of one of myself (somewhat larger silhouette) and my gorgeous good lady out for an evening paddle on the River Crouch in Essex.

As you can see there was a small breeze, however the boards performed really well, not being difficult to control at all. My better half is seen here on the Aquamarine Vapour board which is the four inch thick board, built for the lighter person. She found it had great manoeuvrability and some great pace. Given that this is an entry level board (tremendous value for a fully inclusive kit at £350) it is a superb option.

A young family has just bought one recently and it was a joy to see them out - mum, dad, the two kids and even grandad all having a go but most importantly a heap of fun.

The interest in this sport (and kayaking) is growing very quickly and already we have people asking for higher grade kit. Check out the new Jobe boards and equipment we now have in - more expensive but gorgeous!

We will help you buy right making sure you get the right size and style for your uses. We will walk through the whole process and give you some basic instruction before you start. We will also make sure you have all of the right safety kit and clothing (this being more important than you initially think). A lot of our customers want flexibility to use the boards for fitness, for fun, for surfing and for some serious paddling - we will help you identify the right route.

As we have always said, our purpose is to simply get people out on the water, in anyway we can. It has always been such a shame to us that for a nation with so much water in and around us, how so many people have not experienced it. Buying a boat can be expensive and even getting the opportunity to go on someone else's is difficult sometimes - however to try it, see if you like it and then get into boating later - what a fantastic and inexpensive way of getting out there.

We are learning so much from our customers and love passing on their knowledge and experience. Come and see us sometime and have a look at all of the weird and wonderful ways we have at The Wetworks to get you on the water and to enjoy to the full.

Come on, lets get wet - simply grab the sunshine of fun and spirit that lives inside you!

See you on the Water!

Invitation

Maybe it's because we are on the third floor, maybe it's because we say it is a showroom as opposed to a bright colourful marine outlet providing great products backed with good old fashioned service and people who actually know their subject - but...it does appear that off the back of a bit of research, there are man who thought they needed an invitation to come up and see us.

Apart from the fact that you absolutely do not, if you would like one then here it is;

The Wetworks would truly appreciate your presence at our delightful re-furbished sail loft here in Burnham On Crouch. Some of the best views in town,  good coffee, interesting kit and Dave Somers (discount dave to some, disco dave to the rest of us) awaiting your visit!

We focus on some of the unusual pieces of equipment and have an array of 'get you on the water' products.

We will also be having a 'proper' open evening at the end of June - if you would in fact like to receive a formal invite to that one then please send either Dave or myself a note and we will get one out to you. Make sure you tick the wine colour preference on the invite...

Oh yes,, one other thing - there is an internal staircase - you do not have to use that scary outside one. It is tucked int the corner little but through a half glazed door you come up a really nice wide, safe stair up to the loft - hope to see you there soon.

Come on then - lets get out there!

So - has spring finally arrived - or are we seeing the beginning of summer? All we know is that looking out from our sail loft here in Burnham On Crouch we can at last see some glorious sunshine and are starting to hear the flutter of sails passing by.

Everyone we know (including ourselves) have been extremely slow to get the boats ready and out on the water. Let's face it, it has been miserable and not particularly inviting so lets hope that now we can quickly catch up and get out as soon as possible.

We now have launched two of our boats, our Sun Odyssey 37 and our Hunter 707. These boats are here to help you get on the water, if only to try it out for the first time or to give some education/guidance from confidence days directed at anyone who would like to get out and practice any aspect of sailing to race honing. Whether it be a couple or family working out the best way to get in and out of marinas, picking up moorings, or simply wanting to walk through their approach/their kit or a race team or skipper who want to develop aspects of their racing techniques (particularly in the any areas of boat handling, working as a team).

We have some brilliant support in these areas and can provide range of high level skills that don't always sit in the RYA books. We;also are running a number of team building events for companies using the facilities at the loft and combining the days with on the water activities which include anything form paddle boarding to yachting.

Get in touch with us if you want to find out more or wish to simply see about coming out for a sail.

See you on the Water

So changeable - are we able to get ready yet?

Here are a couple of views from our Burnham showroom over the weekend which shows just how different every day is at the moment. On Friday it was glorious and definitely a day to think about getting the boat prepared and by the following day...

What you can't see from this image is the unfortunate sinking of an international dragon. If you look really closely the mast is just poking out.

With it being so difficult to make the call on when to work on the boat , our advice is to get your list together. Without doubt, as soon as the weather breaks you will want to get on with things and there is nothing worse than finding that all of your gear is dried up, out of date or in a poor condition. Sit down and work through a list of everything you need to do, set priorities and send us your list so that we an put a package together and get it out to you in readiness for the rush to get back in.

There are some great offers about (particularly on flares) so give us a bell or email us to see how we can help to prepare your season.

See you on the water

Paddling - but where?

We are very into stand up paddle boarding having had boards in our families for a few years now. We will be selling them and hope to also have boards and different blades/paddles that you can come down and try. The latest inflatables are really good - our resident SUP experts (paddlers for years) are just sifting through all of the different brands to decide on the best range to have. We will let you know about them as soon as possible and tell you more about the Wetworks SUP club/team we are intending to create.

In the meantime, to enhance those SUP muscles, whilst also getting into a sport which is absolutely fantastic - have a look at our land paddling video that we shot last week out on the Burnham Marshes. As part of our growth into The Outdoorworks we will also be selling long boards and land paddles and as usual will continuously scour these sports for new ideas.

Land paddling is a pleasurable sport that also provides a great work out. The video shows one of our younger guys (who is a bit good on a board) and one of the Wetworks founders who, at the ripe old age of 55 loves this sport so much he now comes to work this way.

Enjoy the film and get in touch if you want to learn more about the SUP activity or land paddling.

P.S. Look out for our kayak activity - great new toys on the way.

See you on the water
